Venice introduces a fee for tourists

Venice has become the first city where tourists who do not stay overnight are obliged to pay a fee of 5 euros.

This innovation is reported by DailyMaverick.

This experiment has already attracted the interest of other countries that are struggling with the consequences of excessive mass tourism.

Venice will try to reduce the number of tourists who enter the city and cause numerous traffic jams.

It is reported that there will be no barriers to entry, but inspectors will select random tourists for checks.

Those with documents out of order could be fined between 50 and 300 euros.

“We are not closing the city, we are just trying to make it livable,” said Venice Mayor Luigi Brugnaro.

He also added that no one has ever done this before.

For the last information, last year, Venice had about 20 million visitors.
