Yemeni Houthis sink a Greek dry cargo ship
It has become known that the Yemeni Houthis have sunk the Greek dry cargo ship Magic Seas in the waters of the Red Sea.
According to the British Maritime Coordination Office, this is the first such attack since the 12-day war between Israel and Iran ended in June.
The Greek-flagged vessel came under a multi-stage attack.
It was first hit with small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades, followed by four surface unmanned boats.
Attempts by armed guards to repel the attack failed – the ship caught fire and sank.
“The incident occurred 51 nautical miles southwest of Al Hodeidah, Yemen. The ship was attacked by several small boats, which opened fire with small arms and hand grenade launchers,” the coordination center said.
According to Reuters, there is no information yet on the fate of the crew. Rescue efforts are complicated by the unstable situation in the region and the risk of repeated attacks.
