The rarest black hole in the Universe

It is reported that astronomers have managed to discover one of the rarest black holes in the Universe.

The space object was given the name HLX-1. It is located more than 450 million light years from Earth.

Previous observations have shown that black holes can be of different sizes, from small (smaller than the Sun) to supermassive (40 billion times more massive than our star).

There are also medium-mass black holes: from 100 to 100 thousand solar masses. They are extremely difficult to detect.

They are not large enough to create energy flows, and their location can be determined only by indirect signs.

According to scientists, HLX-1 belongs to this group. This object is located at the edge of the galaxy NGC 6099.

With the help of modern telescopes astronomers recorded there a bright flash.

Presumably, this is an event of tidal destruction – absorption by a black hole nearby star.
