The death toll from the Myanmar earthquake has already surpassed 1,000. The numbers are not final as debris removal continues

The number of dead in Myanmar has exceeded 1000

It became known that the number of dead in the strongest earthquake in Myanmar has exceeded 1000.

Now, 1002 people are considered dead. The figures are not final, as the removal of rubble is still in progress.

This is reported by AFP with reference to the authorities. Myanmar Now writes about 2.4 thousand injured.

The epicenter of the earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 was west of Mandalay.

This is the second-largest city in Myanmar; the tremors were felt in a number of major cities, including the capital, Naypyidaw.

A rescue worker in Mandalay told the BBC’s Burma Service that most buildings in Mandalay had collapsed.

“The sight of Mandalay when we started the rescue operation was horrible,” the rescuer said, describing how people were running through the streets, screaming and crying.
