It has been reported that gray balls of unknown origin have once again been found on the coast of New South Wales, Australia.
The Australian Environmental Protection Agency quickly cleaned up the beaches, according to The Guardian.
It is not yet known whether the spherical clumps of strange substance are related to those that appeared on the Sydney coast in January.
At that time, conservation officers found hydrocarbons, fatty acids, and Escherichia coli bacteria in the samples collected.
Experts reported that some of them also contained traces of pumice, a porous volcanic glass.
“They smell absolutely disgusting,” said a chemistry professor at the University of New South Wales.
It is currently believed that the mysterious balls entered the water from the sewer system. The sewer system allegedly malfunctioned because it had not been repaired for a long time.
The new balls could have entered the water from storm drains or been dumped from ships passing by the state.
The Central Coast Council advised people not to visit the beaches where the balls were seen for the time being. Samples of them are currently being studied.
