French President Emmanuel Macron has named the conditions for sending the French military to Ukraine.
This could happen if Russia breaks through the Ukrainian front, or at a direct request from Kyiv. He said this in an interview with The Economist.
“If the Russians were to break through the front lines, if there were a Ukrainian request- which is not the case today-we would legitimately have to ask ourselves this question. So, I think to rule it out a priori is not to learn the lessons of the past two years,” said the French President.
He also recalled that Paris has already sent military personnel to other countries, notably recently, to Africa to fight terrorism.
Macron says other Western countries should not discard this option.
After all, back in the summer of 2022, they ruled out sending tanks, long-range missiles and aircraft, but now all of this is being supplied to Ukraine.
Earlier, the French president said that troops would be sent to Ukraine not for combat missions but for training and assistance in demining.
