Congressman Shri Thanedar, a Michigan Democrat, has filed seven articles of impeachment against Donald Trump.
He accused the US President of obstruction of justice, abuse of power, usurpation of authority, bribery, and corruption.
Among the claims against Trump are the deportation of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a man whom Thanedar says was wrongly sent to El Salvador.
And cutting funding to some government agencies through Musk’s department without congressional authorization.
Another reason is Trump’s tariff policy, which the congressman said has had a negative impact on the international economy.
Thanedar also mentioned pressure on journalists and violations of freedom of speech, apparently referring to Trump’s scandals with a number of media outlets.
In addition, Trump is charged with “tyrannical abuse of power”.
“When Trump ignores the Constitution, Congress, and the courts, he is not “fighting for America.” He is tearing it down and endangering our democracy.,” Thanedar said.
At the same time, the head of the Congressional Democrats, Hakeem Jeffries said that he had not even read Thanedar’s accusations yet.
It is reported that this initiative is unlikely to have real consequences, given the Republicans’ control over the House of Representatives and the Senate, Axios writes.
Earlier, other Democrats were also considering initiating impeachment. For example, Congressman Al Green of Texas is planning his own articles.
