Hamas has agreed to return all Israeli hostages, both living and dead.
The group made this announcement in response to Donald Trump’s recent peace proposals.
“In order to achieve a cessation of hostilities and a complete withdrawal of troops from the Gaza Strip, the movement announces its agreement to release all Israeli prisoners,” the statement said.
Trump then said that Hamas was ready for a lasting peace and that Israel should stop shelling Gaza.
“Israel must immediately stop bombing Gaza so that we can safely and quickly withdraw the hostages,” the US president wrote on social media.
Later, Trump recorded a video message on the subject, in which he said that they were very close to peace. According to him, he is waiting for the return of the hostages.
“Everyone was united in their desire for this war to end and for peace to reign in the Middle East. And we are very close to achieving this,” Trump said.
After the US president, Israel commented on the situation. Netanyahu’s office said that in light of Hamas’ reaction, Israel was preparing to immediately implement the first phase of Trump’s plan.
A correspondent for the Galatz military radio station reported that the Israeli military would reduce its activity in Gaza to a minimum.
“Following Trump’s statement, the political leadership instructed the IDF to end the operation to occupy Gaza,” Doron Kadosh wrote in X.
