Google Maps users found a ‘flying saucer’ in Antarctica

Google Maps images in Antarctica have revealed a strange round object, which ufologists and Web users immediately dubbed a UFO.

On satellite images in the area of Banger Hills, you can see a rounded object resembling a ‘flying saucer.’ About this writes DailyMail.

The coordinates of the place are 66°16’24.5″ S 100°59’03.5″ E. Along the edge of the object is a silvery line, and dark stripes are noticeable around it.

Scientists, however, are skeptical. Professor of glaciology Bethan Davies from the University of Newcastle explained that this is not a UFO at all, but a small lake in a rocky basin.

According to her, the dark water absorbs the sun’s heat more strongly, causing the snow to melt faster, giving the lake a semi-circular shape.

While some continue to see the object as evidence of an alien craft crash, others see it as just a natural phenomenon.

But the attention to this find re-emphasizes that Antarctica remains a territory of mystery, enigma and endless cause for debate.
